NANAY CAROLING FUNDRAISER - December 2001

San Francisco-Bay Area- December 2001

NANAY, Inc. SF held it’s 2nd annual caroling, visiting several houses and senior homes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

NANAY volunteers sang a mix of Tagalog and English Christmas carols, accompanied by two World War II Filipino Veterans, Ireneo Chavez and Ernesto Cinco. Mr. Cinco also displayed his musical talent by playing the saxophone while the volunteers sang their hearts out with a medley of upbeat Christmas carols. NANAY volunteers ended their singing with a heartfelt acappella rendition of ‘God Bless America,’ dedicated to all of America’s fallen heroes, especially the recent victims of Sept. 11 in New York City.

NANAY raised over $1,000 dollars, which will be used to continue activities like the Grandparent Matching Program as well as trips and home visits between the seniors and youth. NANAY SF achieved its goal of bringing holiday cheer to everyone, especially the youth and the seniors. As importantly, the caroling fundraiser brought out the mission and vision of NANAY: empowering youth and seniors as productive members in society and allowing an exchange of cultural knowledge between the two groups. NANAY SF especially wants to thank everyone for their exceptional hospitality!
