NANAY Holds “I Need Help in Housing” Fair

North Miami, Florida – October 14, 2006

On Saturday, November 4, 2006, NANAY Housing Resource Center through NANAY Community Development Corporation (NANAY-CDC), and in partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services (A NeighborWorks® Home Ownership Center), will host the “I Need Help in Housing” Fair and Expo at the NANAY Community Center located in North Miami, Florida. This free community service will help low and moderate income families qualify for home ownership, learn about government down payment assistance programs, learn about the ins and outs of comparing mortgage products, and learn ways to reduce their debts and determine eligibility.

“Our partnership's focus is on solving the housing problems of individuals who are eligible for public program support but cannot navigate the maze of regulatory obstacles to get into decent affordable housing,” says Tom Zuniga, Chairman of NANAY Housing Resource Center. “Our dream is for the NANAY Housing Resource Center to help people at all income levels who are intimidated by the housing market, who wish to get into good housing, and who want to participate in a support network that helps them sustain their housing after they buy or rent.”

Some organizations have already reached out to NANAY Housing Resource Center with offers to help. A name brand furniture store is interested in donating furniture to families who become members. A local church would like to create an Emergency Loan Fund for members of the NANAY Housing Resource Center who are threatened with foreclosure or eviction.

NANAY Community Development Corporation (NANAY-CDC) is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization established in 2004 to advance community development programs that empower, transform and improve the lives of low and moderate income individuals and families; and to develop affordable housing, counseling, education and other supportive services for the community that it serves within the contiguous counties of Miami-Dade and Broward, located within the State of Florida.

The NANAY Housing Resource Center is a One-Stop shop where people with housing needs can get information about available resources, get help in identifying the right home, and be guided by caring counselors to gain ownership of a quality home.

The NANAY Housing Resource Center is unique among housing counseling agencies in that it maintains an effective tracking system of its members (any one who has used its services to get housing) and recognizes the importance of maintaining a "post purchase" or on-going system of support for members--whether through case management, loans for housing emergencies, or guided access to pre-qualified plumbers, electricians and other home service technicians.

On the supply side, the NANAY Housing Resource Center connects with providers of "community housing" (developers, brokers, property owners) to create an inventory of available homes for purchase or rent.

This project of NANAY-CDC serves to create strategic community partnerships with state and local governments, real estate developers, employers, and nonprofits through an alignment of effort and resources that will address the housing needs of individuals and families who have a hard time accessing the housing market.
