Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to build a relationship with a financial institution. To achieve this objective, participants will be able to:

v       Recognize the major types of insured financial institutions

v       Recognize basic banking terms

v       Recognize differences between banks and check-cashing services

v       Identify bank employees and their jobs

v       Identify the types of accounts

v       Describe banking services


Module 2 - Borrowing Basics

Time 60 Minutes

 Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to decide when and how to use credit. To achieve this objective, participants will be able to:

v       Explain the value of credit

v       Describe different types of loans


Module 3 - Check It Out

Time 90 Minutes

 Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to open and keep a checking account. To achieve this objective, participants will be able to:

v       Identify benefits of using a bank versus using a check-cashing service

v       Identify types of checking account fees

v       Compare types of checking accounts

v       Open a checking account

v       Write checks

v       Use ATM and debit cards

v       Keep records for a checking account

v       Reconcile a checking account


Module 4 - Money Matters

Time 90 Minutes

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to prepare a personal budget. To achieve this objective, the participants will be able to:

v       Describe the concept of budgeting

v       Recognize the benefits of budgeting

v       Use a budgeting tool


Module 5 - Pay Yourself First

Time 60 Minutes

 

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to recognize the importance of saving money. To achieve this objective, the participants will be able to:

v       Identify ways to save money

v       Describe how money can grow when you save

v       Tell the difference between types of savings and investment accounts


Module 6 - Keep It Safe

Time 90 Minutes

 

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be familiar with their rights as banking consumers. To achieve this terminal objective, the participants will be able to:

v       Identify the laws that protect their rights as banking consumers

v       Identify ways to avoid scams

v       Identify ways to protect their identity

v       Resolve complaints regarding their bank accounts


Module 7 - To Your Credit

Time 70 Minutes

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be familiar with the importance of a credit history. To achieve this objective, the participants will be able to:

v       Identify a credit report and how it is used

v       Order a credit report

v       Read a credit report

v       Identify ways to start repairing credit

v       Recognize credit repair scams

v       Identify available resources


Module 8 - Charge It Right

Time 60 Minutes

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be able to describe the costs and benefits of using a credit card. To achieve this objective, participants will be able to:

v       Identify characteristics of credit cards

v       Describe the costs of using a credit card

v       Recognize potential problems with credit card use


Module 9 - Loan to Own

Time 60 Minutes

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will become familiar with the characteristics of consumer installment loans. To achieve this objective, participants will be able to:

v       Describe the different types of consumer installment loans

v       Determine the right consumer installment loan for their needs


Module 10 - Your Own Home

Time 90 Minutes

Objectives        By the end of this course, participants will be familiar with the process for getting homeownership financing. To achieve this objective, the participants will be able to:

v      Describe the benefits and pitfalls of renting versus owning a home

v      Ask questions to determine readiness to buy a home

v      Identify different mortgage programs
