Nanay SF/Bay Area Holds Second Annual Summer Picnic July 17, 2001 ![]()
Anyone who thinks that intergenerational gap is an issue that cannot be resolved may have to take a lesson from the youth volunteers of NANAY-San Francisco/Bay Area. Through the dynamic leadership of Executive Director Marisa Robles and the nurturing guidance of Youth Director Don Rodis, youth celebrated NANAY's second annual picnic with the older generation at the Chevron Clubhouse in Richmond on July 14, 2001.
In addition to their own families and friends, the youth brought six seniors from the Veterans Equity Center in San Francisco. Activities included games that involved both the youth and the seniors and gave them the opportunity to interact and learn from each other. They played a Maria Clara Dressing game with two teams each consisting of both youth and seniors. They also played a freeze dancing game, went bowling, played board games and walked around the Chevron picnic grounds together. “I am so proud of our organization,” claims Marisa Robles, NANAY-SF/Bay Area's Executive Director. “Through NANAY’s intergenerational program, we have been able to show that youth can get truly involved with their community, while also having fun time with the seniors.” NANAY’s President, Joy Bruce from Florida, wholeheartedly agrees.
