NANAY
Brings
Affordable Housing
to Community
Miami, Florida
-- March 2006
NANAY, Inc., a nonprofit organization that
provides supportive services to elders and youth, recently
implemented a program to provide a series of
free Homeownership Seminars as part of its initiative
for community development.
"We want to educate people about the
process of buying a house, as well as the responsibility of owning a
house," says Dr. Joy Bruce, NANAY President and CEO. "This is
crucial in making their decisions on whether to keep renting, or to
start building their assets through homeownership."

NANAY is
planning to embark on an ambitious program to bring
affordable housing to the
community, beginning with the proposed establishment of
NANAY Landing One as an affordable
Condominium Community for first- and second-time homebuyers and
Miami's Workforce. The complex consists of 14 two bedroom, 820 sq ft
flats on the first floor (suitable for seniors and persons with
physical disabilities) and 28 two bedroom, 830 sq ft, 2-story town
homes for singles, newlyweds and young families. All units are
equipped with beautiful hardwood floors, marble kitchen counters and
stainless steel appliances. This affordable Condominium Community is
located on a 1.7 acre property at 148th & Sixth Avenue NE, North
Miami.
"We now have a housing counseling
initiative under way to help the low and moderate-income families,
working young professionals, elderly and disabled, avail of
government subsidies and own their units at an affordable price,"
says Tom Zuniga, Managing Director of DSG Community Marketing
Services, LLC and Vice-Chairman of NANAY Community Development
Corporation (CDC) Board of Directors.
The campaign will tap affordable housing
finance resources such as the Dade County Surtax, Metro Miami Action
Plan Trust, Fannie Mae Employer Assisted
Homeownership Program, and other second mortgage and buyer
assistance programs. NANAY CDC will help coordinate sales and
marketing, and will assist in buyer prequalification, buyer
financing using private and public funds, and unit closings.
Scheduled seminars will assist people in
making the decision if they want to purchase or not. A full 8-hour
homeownership workshop will later be given
to those interested in buying homes, and a knowledgeable lender will
be invited to assist in onsite prequalification.
“We’re taking the matter of affordable
housing seriously as it is one of the basic necessities the
community sorely needs,” said Dr. Bruce. “Seminars for the public
started this month. We’re working with newsprint and broadcast media
in getting this important message to every member of the community.
For starters radio airtime will be provided by Radio TV Philippines
Network through its
streaming radio FilAmRadio.com.”
NANAY Community Center is located at 659
NE 125 Street, North Miami, Floriida. For more
