NANAY CELEBRATES 14TH ANNIVERSARY Miami, Florida - November 15, 2008
On November 8, 2008, NANAY celebrated its 14th Anniversary at the Treetop Ballroom in Parrot Jungle Trail, Miami, Florida, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Dr. Dario Moreno, guest speaker and Director of the FIU Metropolitan Center, congratulated NANAY's officers and members for their commitment and dedication to the community, and outlined the various steps for success as a nonprofit organization, emphasizing the need for focus and partnership. Dr. Joy Bruce, President and Chair of NANAY, gave a Power Point presentation of the different services that the organization has provided through the years, shared its plans for the future, which included the renovation of NANAY Community Center, and formally announced the launching of NANAY's Capital and Program Endowment. A posthumous award was given to Marcelo Alvarez Bruce, for his inspiration that paved the way for the birth of NANAY, Inc. The Most Distinguished Community Service Award was given to the Chinese American Benevolent Association for helping new immigrants and providing scholarships to youth , the Most Distinguished Volunteer Award to Nena Forte for 14 years of dedicated service to NANAY, and the Most Distinguished Corporate Service Award to Aetna Foundation for its initiatives in preventing diabetes and supporting caregivers.
The highlight of the event was a formal induction of the officers - the
first time in 14 years of NANAY's existence.
"For the last fourteen years, officers and members of the NANAY Board have served immediately after appointment, even without the benefit of formal induction," said Dr. Joy Bruce. "It is about time that they get officially recognized by the community for their efforts and dedication."
