NEWS UPDATES
Letter to Senator Jun Magsaysay October 2, 2005 Senator Jun Magsaysay Office of the Senate Manila, Philippines Dear Senator Magsaysay, On behalf of the Filipino-Americans, Filipinos residing in the Philippines and overseas, NANAY, Inc-Florida and advocates concerned about the plight of our children in prison, I would like to express our sincere appreciation and thanks for your generous donation of P1,000,000 and the 3-hectare land for sustainable programs to help the children. Your magnanimous help is unprecedented. We just wish that there are more government officials like you who are concerned and receptive to needs of our children. We are currently exploring various options, on how to best utilize the donations in cash and in kind that you have so generously provided. One of our plans is to use the agricultural land to train and help the older kids develop sustainable sources of livelihood, like planting vegetables, and other agricultural products, after they have been released from prison. We will also be working with various NGO's on other rehabilitation and restorative programs for the children in prison. We hope that you will support our advocacy for the passage, funding and implementation of the Consolidate Juvenile Justice Bill. Please accept our deepest appreciation for your generosity and help (through the intervention of Dr. Chee Garcia and Elsa Bayani). We look forward to a brighter future for our children and our country. Sincerely, Joy Bruce, M.D. Founding President & CEO, NANAY Inc NANAY PhilippinesCommittee On Behalf of Global Filipinos
