 INTERNATIONAL ExpoFEST 2002

FACT SHEET

On June 1 and 2, 2002 (Saturday and Sunday), NANAY, Alliance for Aging and our South Florida Community Partnership will hold a   TRI-COUNTY  International ExpoFEST 2002  at the Miami Arena, in Florida.

The purpose of the International ExpoFEST is to foster unity and collaboration among the local organizations, and to improve the relationship of the culturally diverse and fragmented ethnic minorities in South Florida. This event reflects our vision of a culturally diverse community where migration history, ethnicity, business, information and resources can be shared, not only within our own groups, but also across other cultures.

The International ExpoFEST 2002 is coordinated by multi-ethnic community leaders from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties in partnership with the Miami Arena. It will feature a combination of multicultural stage performances, international food festival, multicultural exhibits, health fair, service-education booths, job fair, and trade show.  On this momentous occasion:

  • Diverse cultures will be represented by a cross section of America, including Asian, Haitian, Hispanic, African-American, Caribbean, European and Caucasian populations residing in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, as well as out-of-town tourists and seasonal guests.
  • Diverse Ages will represented by high school and college students, as well as middle-aged and senior citizens with varying needs.
  • Diverse Needs that everyone shares at different levels and stages of life will be simultaneously addressed -- ranging from health, service, education, business opportunities, and cultural entertainment.
  • Diverse Organizations will be involved: Although NANAY, Inc. is the lead agency for this major event, there are more than a dozen other organizations from different ethnic backgrounds and with different missions (cultural, business, service, and/or education) that are joining hands to plan and coordinate this event.  NANAY's community partners in this event include:  the Miami Arena, Alliance for Aging, Asian American Federation of Florida, Asian American Chamber of Commerce, ASPIRA, City of North Miami, Doctors Plus Medical Center, Filipino American Ministries, Japan America Society of Florida, Miami-Dade Community College, Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (Intergenerational Program), National Conference of Puerto Rican Women, Office of U.S. Rep. Carrie Meek, Organization of Chinese Americans-South Florida Chapter, Philippine American Federation of South Florida, Philippine Nurses Association, SAYAW, Etc., and Service-Leadership Florida.

Dr. Zachariah P. Zachariah, an eminent cardiologist and Honorary Trustee of the Holy Cross Memorial Hospital, serves as Honorary Chair of the International ExpoFEST 2002, while Dr. Antonio Wong, Director of Doctor's Plus Medical Center is chairing the Health Committee segment of the ExpoFest.
