  FREE WORKSHOPS FOR CAREGIVERS Month of NOVEMBER 2006

Workshops are free and registration is not required. NANAY’s workshops are open to all community members. Sessions are conducted at the Social Hall of NANAY Community Center, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, unless otherwise noted. Call us at (305) 981-3232 if you have any questions.

November 2, Thursday: Overcoming the Barriers in Caregiving

Caregivers tend to feel angry or guilty about the obligations that they face in caring for the ones they love. Learn how to deal with negative feelings and how to respond constructively by implementing management techniques.

November 7, Tuesday (Election Day): Stress Management - Relaxing With Music

In this workshop, the presenter will demonstrate and engage participants on how to use music as an effective tool to relax, reduce stress and feel refreshed

November 9, Thursday (Field Trip): Health Fair & Educational Tour - The “Ins” & “Outs” of a Medical Center

Dr. & Mrs. James Chen, Dr. Christopher Chen and the staff of ChenMed Center are hosting this health fair and educational tour from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. They will demonstrate the processes involved from the time clients/ patients enter the clinic, consult with their physician, go through check-ups, and leave the premises. “Goodie bags” and refreshments will be provided by Vista Health plans

November 14 (Tuesday): Stress Management - Understanding Holiday Depression

The holiday season is a time when many people feel lonely and depressed. This workshop is designed to help participants understand why the holidays generate sad feelings and how to deal with sadness.

November 16 (Thursday): Stress Management - The Secrets of Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination is a creator of subtle stress and inner tension. In this workshop, participants will learn the secrets of overcoming procrastination and will go through a practical exercise on how to successfully overcome the habit of “putting off what can be done now/today”.

November 21 (Tuesday): Staying Fit and Healthy During the Holiday Season

Learn how to control “eating binges” and to do fun exercises while enjoying the holiday spirit.

November 28 (Tuesday): Stress Management and Nutrition: Relationship between Eating & Reducing Stress

Learn about the impact of good eating habits and healthy food items that are considered “stress reducers.”

November 30 (Thursday): Legal Issues - The Importance of “The Power of Attorney”

The presenter will discuss when it is appropriate and not appropriate to assign “power of attorney” in protecting one’s interests, as well as recommendations on how to choose an individual in assigning this legal power to act on one’s behalf.
