February 28 (Tuesday) 3:15 – 4:30 p.m. @ the North Miami Public Library Depression & Suicide: Understanding the Causes and Prevention of Adolescent Depression and Suicide Learn about the causes and prevention of depression and suicide among young people. March 2 (Thursday) HIV & STD: Causes and Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Across Age Groups (Guest Lecturer: Dr. May Lau, Miami Children’s Hospital) Dr. Lau will discuss the myths and realities of sexually transmitted diseases that affect all age groups. March 7 (Tuesday) Lifelong Learning Skills: How to Develop Ways of Absorbing New and Retaining Old Knowledge Learn the effective ways of remembering and retaining information that you value in your life. March 9 (Thursday) Care Giving: How to Care for Oneself While Caring for the Ones We Love The workshop will focus on the “basics” of caring for the ones we love and the community resources that are available. March 14 (Tuesday) Stress Management: The Impact of Personal Grooming on Self-Esteem and Social Presence How we look and present ourselves to others affect our stress levels. Learn how to manage the impressions that we want to give of ourselves. March 16 (Thursday) Stress Management: How to Deal With Issues Regarding Family and Significant Others People that we love and care for – family members and significant others – have an impact on our stress levels. Learn some practical ways to deal with family conflict and to appreciate the value of each family member. March 21 (Tuesday) Management of Impressions: How to Put Your Best Foot Forward in Everyday Life Learn how to manage the information and impression that other people have of us. March 23 (Thursday) Surviving Disappointments: How to Cope When Things Are Not Going Your Way Learn how to deal with disappointments through negotiating and compromising skills. March 28 (Tuesday) Cross Cultural Relations: How to Make Friends in a Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Community Our neighborhoods are among the most diverse culturally and linguistically in the United States. Learn how to make the most of this multicultural environment through friendship and mutual interest. March 30 (Thursday) Stress Management: The Impact of Nutrition on Personal Wellness “You are what you eat” is more than just a saying. Learn how nutrition affects your personal wellness and reduces (or increases) your stress level.
